The situation of Saharawi activist Aminatou Haidar has taken a different turn as Washington and the UN asked Morrocco to facilitate her return.
US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon has called on Moroccan foreign minister Taib Fassi-Fihri, interceeding for the Saharawi activist who has been on hunger strike since over one month. "Our main concern is the health of Mrs Haider who is on hunger strike for a very long time" said US state department spokes person Ian Kelly. Although, he acknowledged that "it is a bilateral issue between Spain and Morocco", he insists on a rapid solution to this ugly situation.
Congressmen and women from both Republicans and Democrats are adding voices to the demand for Mrs. Haidars return to her native country. There is no indication of any direct contact to the King of Morocco on this question yet. However, a coalition of Spanish artists and university students are mobilising support for Mrs Haidar, asking King Juan Carlos of Spain to interceed on behalf of Mrs Haidar before the King of Morocco.
Morocco has since rejected those calls from Washington and the UN. They are not ready to allow Mrs Haidar into their territory. "Let her ask Algeria for a passport" said a Moroccan official in allusion to Mrs Haidars good links with Moroccan arch-enemy and neighbour Algeria.
Mrs Haidar is still on hunger strike and has since rejected any solution that is not durable and favourable to her demands. She wants to go home. Period!

I dont think there will be any solution for this woman. These people (Arabs) are like animals. If they can tie bombs to their waist and blow themselves up, a hunger strike is less likely to move them. I predict that the world will watch this woman die. Or, the spanish court will have to forcefully feed her to live.
